Taidor: a man with a dream of bringing harmony to the world

10 Apr, 2012 Posted by

This is an interview I did a while back before the sports festival started at Ambo University. It is probably my favorite interview and I want to keep hold of it before the sports festival goes down when the contract runs out. That’s why I’ve posted it here. Also, I have a different audience here compared to the ambosports.com website. Some of you may have read it already but for those of you who haven’t, it’s a very nice read with a very interesting and kind man. So for your reading pleasure, an interview with Taidor.

A Man with Dreams

Name: Taidor Kojil Lampour

Age: 33

Place of Birth: Gambella, Ethiopia (Nuer)

Educational background? I am a second year student studying Educational Planning and Management (EDPM)

Other personal information you would like to share: My friends call me Tyson because my name Taidor is similar to Tyson, the famous American boxer. I am also on the University basketball team.

Describe yourself in three words? Happy, Tall and Black with white teeth

What do you do for fun / hobbies? For fun I like to play basketball and I enjoy going to the Presbyterian Church in Ambo.

Do you watch or play any sports? I like to watch my favourite football team play, Chelsea. I like them because I admire Drogba as a player. Every time he plays he plays to his full capacity.

What brought you to Ambo? I came to Ambo for my study.

Where in the world / Ethiopia do you want to visit and why? I would like to visit London in England. I would like to study my post-graduate degree there, I want to visit the city and I want to watch Chelsea play.

What is your greatest achievement? Graduating from Ambo University will be my greatest achievement

Where do you see yourself in two years? I two years I see myself as a graduate of EDPM and hopefully doing a post-graduate degree somewhere. If possible, in London.

Outside the lecture theaters

Who inspires you or who is your biggest inspiration? My uncle is the person who inspires me because of the way he taught us as children. He told us many things about education saying that education is very important for the future. It is a good instrument for the future that will help you a lot. The Church also inspires me; it helps guide you through life.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? The best piece of advice I was ever told was by a friend who said “You are a good and humble person. I am telling you this in case no one else has told you this. You deserve it.”

What can you bring to the world? I can bring harmony to the world.

Describe the atmosphere of the campus community? Living here is somehow funny. It is good really. The University promotes diversity and they encourage themselves in a good manner. But they can be very strict on us as well.

What are your expectations for the upcoming sports festival? I expect that the University will receive athletes in a good manner and that they will like Ambo. During the games I don’t think there will be much achievement as we are still a new university and we have not had much time for preparation.

Which sports will you follow during the games? During the festival I will be following the basketball, football and volleyball.

If you could be a professional at any sport, which one would it be? If I could be a professional at any sport, it would be basketball. I would want to play in America for the Chicago Bulls because I like Michael Jordan very much.

Any words for our athletes? Be skinny as an athlete

Standing Tall and Proud
